MJP Solicitors / making justice possible MJP
solicitors was formed on 1st May 1996 by Mark Jones who retired
as partner from Silverbeck Rymer Solicitors in order to concentrate
upon the development of a specialist niche practice dealing with
criminal law, with a speciality in fraud related cases and the larger
criminal cases. The current partner of MJP solicitors are Mark Jone,
Michael Ellis, Colin Downie, Philip Freckleton, Dominic McNAbb and
Robert Code all of whom are experienced criminal specialists.
Mark Jones has considerable commercial experience having been the
partner in charge of Commercial Law at Silverbeck Rymer Solicitors
from 1986-1995, and his expertise in non-contentious matters and
wide commercial experience is of invaluable benefit to fraud cases,
that have a commercial element.
MJP solicitors and the Fraud Panel From the 2nd April 2001, only
those firms that are approved by LSC - Criminal Defence Service
will be able to conduct fraud cases whether such Prosecutions are
commenced by the Crown Prosecution Service, HM Customs & Excise,
DTI, Inland Revenue investigations Department or all such other
prosecuting bodies in relation to large scale alleged fraud.
The practice has developed a panel of approved contractors consisting
of Barristers, Chartered Accountants and Document experts who are
regularly instructed by MJP solicitors to conduct criminal cases
and to provide expert reports in relation to fraud allegations.
The service does not stop there as many Defendants
who are charged with fraud related cases have usually never had
an experience with the criminal justice system before and find the
experience extremely distressing.
MJP solicitors have trained councilors who are able
to provide emotional support for Defendants who find their ordeal
difficult to bear and who require counselling to assist them in
coming to terms with the fact that they, more than likely, will
have to give evidence upon which their professional careers may
stand or fall.
MJP solicitors, whilst still a relative newcomer,
has developed information technology systems that enable the log
of huge volumes of prosecution and defence material in a manner
that makes it easy for Defendants, Barristers and experts to easily
navigate and locate specific documents in a very short period of
time. This system is useful in the context of the preparation of
the case, and particularly useful during the course of a trial.
Defendants often find themselves deluged with used and unused material
and quite often have huge volumes of their own material, all of
which are contained on one easily navigated database system. The
practice is able to conduct pre-forensic preparation work in order
to collate material into easily navigable and relevant documentation
for the use of experts.
MJP solicitors believe that it is only by detailed
preparation with a client and by delving into motivation surrounding
such expensive prosecutions that insightful instructions can be
taken from the client. They have organised themselves so that the
partner designated to the case has the available time, not only
to prepare the case, but also to direct the Defendant to the relevant
material and obtain extremely detailed instructions which are then
reduced to Prosecution issues as answered by Defence issues.
Through the use of technology, MJP solicitors have found that is
it possible to focus Defendants upon key issues, which would operate
on the mind of a jury with the minimum amount of wasted time dealing
with secondary or tertiary issues, which, in the context of a trial,
may become irrelevant.
This focused approach to the defence of high volume document fraud
cases not only provides savings to the government budget, but also
reduces cases to a comprehensible form, which can be more easily
answered by Defendants. MJP solicitors is always looking to extend
its association not only with other legal practices but also with
accountants and forensic experts who can provide expert assistance
to their clients at a reasonable cost.
MJP solicitors believe that when faced with this sort of crisis,
Defendants often approach their company or business solicitors for
help, but the last person they want to see at the police station
is the man who collects their debts for them!! They need the expertise
of a Fraud Panel approved criminal solicitor, and MJP solicitors
provides this service 24 hours a day to their own clients referred
to them.
The practices mission statement is making justice possible..
The practice believes that ease of access to our service is a key
element of the service provided.
